Rema, the Nigerian Afrobeats star, is facing legal troubles with interior designer Amaka Obasi over a ₦386 million renovation project for his Lagos residence.

The controversy began when Obasi was arrested, with allegations that she failed to complete the project and diverted ₦287 million of the payment into another account. Rema’s legal team claims Obasi delivered substandard work, missed deadlines, and conspired with his former assistant to inflate costs.

Obasi’s lawyers, however, deny the fraud accusations, calling them “baseless and misleading.” They argue the delays were due to Rema’s design changes, estate access issues, and inflation, and that the matter is a civil dispute, not a criminal one. The Nigerian Police have confirmed investigating the case, advising both parties to hire an independent valuer to assess the project’s progress ¹ ² ³.

The situation has sparked heated debate on social media, with some criticizing Rema for allegedly using his influence to intimidate Obasi, while others back the singer, citing the need for accountability.
