Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, is reportedly in discussions with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political groups as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to take shape.
Confirming the development in Abuja, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, said Obi remains open to dialogue with parties and individuals genuinely interested in fixing Nigeria.
“It’s no longer a secret. PDP leaders have made public their interest in Obi,” Yunusa said. “But as he has always stated, his concern is not about personal ambition but about rescuing Nigeria.”
Yunusa explained that while no final decision has been made, ongoing talks are part of a broader conversation aimed at forming a united front to address the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges.

“Discussions are still on. When a decision is reached, it will be in the best interest of Nigeria,” he added.
Dr. Katch Onanuju, a founding member of the Obidient Movement, also welcomed the talks. He believes that reconciling with PDP could help repair damage done during the last election cycle.
“Many of the current opposition leaders, including Obi and Atiku, were once PDP members,” he said. “The refusal to zone the presidency to the South in 2023 created serious cracks, prompting Obi and others to leave.”
He noted that the G-5 governors, led by Nyesom Wike, stayed in PDP but worked against the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, out of protest.
“This is a second chance to make things right and ensure every region feels represented,” he added.
PDP stalwart, Professor Jerry Gana, also commented recently that Obi would be a strong contender if adopted as the party’s presidential flagbearer.
Obi left the PDP in May 2022 after disagreements over the party’s primary process. He joined the Labour Party and gained massive youth support through the Obidient Movement in the 2023 elections.
