Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has stirred heated reactions online following a controversial comment suggesting that Nigeria can only become great again after certain people “kpai”(die).
In a post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Bashir wrote:
“Nigeria can become great again. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on context), a few certain people have to kpai to achieve this dream.”
His use of the slang quickly triggered backlash, with many interpreting the post as a veiled call for the death of some political figures. Critics didn’t hold back, with some even dragging his father into the conversation.

The post comes at a time when Bashir’s father, Nasir El-Rufai, has struck alliances with opposition leaders like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, after being snubbed by President Tinubu.
Rumors of a possible 2027 presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and El-Rufai under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have also made headlines recently.
