The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, over the alleged murder of a 21-year-old woman, Osato Festus Edogiaweria, whose body was found buried in a shallow grave near his house in Benin City.
Police say Osato had been reported missing since April 25, 2025, by her mother, Mrs. Ojo, after she left home five days earlier and never returned. The case was initially reported at Aduwawa Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID).
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, operatives from the Family Unit, acting on intelligence and investigation, arrested Osaigbovo on June 18 in the Iyanomon community of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having invited the said Osato Festus (now deceased) to his residence on 27th April 2025, and in the course of their stay, had an altercation that led to a fight where the deceased fell, hit her head on the ground, and died,” Yamu said.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he moved the body with a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush and buried it in a shallow grave just a few meters from his home.

On June 20, he led police officers to the grave, where Osato’s body was exhumed following appropriate procedures. Her phone was also recovered from him.
CSP Yamu said the suspect would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
