BREAKING: Peter Obi Conferred With Honorary Citizenship of Georgia

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been conferred with Honorary Citizenship of the U.S. State of Georgia.

The honour came on Thursday, September 25, after Obi’s participation in several events during Black Congressional Week in Washington, D.C., with a strong focus on Georgia State engagements.

At the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception in the Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, Obi joined U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in discussions on strengthening African democracy and development. He said Senator Warnock encouraged deeper dialogue on Africa’s governance future.

Obi also met with Kim Clark, CEO of Georgia Power, which generates over 20,000 megawatts of electricity across the U.S. Describing the meeting as “deeply insightful,” Obi stressed that energy partnerships remain vital to Africa’s development.

Later, at the One Voice Africa forum, Obi called for stronger advocacy for good governance, insisting that Africa’s immense potential can only be unlocked through visionary and responsible leadership.

The day concluded with the State of Georgia formally conferring honorary citizenship on Obi; a recognition he said reinforces his commitment to “learning, serving, and building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.”
