Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has directed members of his cabinet to either follow him in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or resign from their positions.
Speaking during a State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, the governor confirmed his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal crises within the party as the key reason.
“It’s no longer news that I’m leaving the PDP,” he said. “You are not compelled to join me, but you cannot remain in my cabinet and work against me.”

Eno emphasized that loyalty is essential for political appointees, stating that anyone unwilling to defect should be ready to vacate their office. “You are free not to come along, but you won’t be in my executive council. This is not a threat; it’s simply the reality.”
He expressed frustration with the PDP’s national leadership, warning that ongoing internal disputes could jeopardize electoral victories on technical grounds.
“I love the PDP, but I can’t risk contesting under a platform where forms are signed by disputed officials, leading to potential disqualification even after winning,” Eno explained.
He added that with the achievements recorded in the state, his team could win elections on any platform. However, the legal uncertainties surrounding the PDP prompted his decision to seek a more stable political future.
