Suspected internet fraudsters, popularly called Yahoo boys, have reportedly killed an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and left another seriously injured in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Reports from PUNCH Online indicate that the operatives were on a mission to arrest suspected cybercriminals when the tragic incident occurred on Friday morning.
The EFCC officers had traveled from their Enugu zonal office to carry out the operation. Sadly, one of the officers, an assistant superintendent who had recently passed a promotional exam, lost his life in the attack.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that investigations are ongoing.
“We are investigating this unfortunate event. A suspect has been arrested, and the firearm used in the attack has been recovered. Further updates will be provided,” Ikenga assured.
