As 2027 approaches, though still a year further, Nigerian politicians have been making preparations for the next elections.

The battle to seize or hold onto power is already getting fierce, with politicians and political parties doing everything possible to be the favorites, not by showing excellent leadership strides but by numbers of defections won.

Recently, senior stakeholders in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have been defecting, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the governor of Delta State.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, who recently has been in close ties with some APC stakeholders, including the Senate President, senator Akpabio, and the president of the Federation, Bola Tinubu himself.

Umo Eno even represented the president at the flag-off of the Calabar-Lagos Highway project, where people’s suspicions began to seem right.

In a recent video that has gone viral, governor Umo Eno used an analogy of an airline to deduce the logic for his possible defection.

The governor spoke in Ibibio dialect, saying (translated by Mike Asukwo)

“All of us are from Akwa Ibom. Hunger does not discriminate between PDP and APC members. What the Akwa Ibom people want is good governance.

“You are about to board a flight to Lagos from Uyo, and you see Air Peace and Ibom Air. Ibom Air develops faults while trying to take off and disembark its passengers.

“But Air Peace is ready to fly to Lagos. Would you cancel your flight to Lagos because you do not want to use Air Peace and wait till Ibom Air is fixed before you travel to Lagos? Would you do that?” He asked.

Eno explained that as far as business is concerned, one would not wait for Ibom air to be ready; it would be logical to take Air Peace, which is ready to fly at the moment.

The statement took some Akwa Ibomites by surprise, as the citizens of the State hold a particular sentiment of their state being a PDP state forever.

Political analysts have analyzed the statement and arrived at the conclusion that Ibom Air is PDP and Air Peace is APC.
