Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and former governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike has strongly condemned a group of women who appear to be supporters of the suspended Rivers governor Siminalayi Fubara for leaving First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu in the middle of an empowerment exercise in Port Harcourt.
Wike termed it a “show of shame” and stated that it embarrassed the people of Rivers State. The women, reportedly led by ousted local government vice-chairmen who are Fubara loyalists, stormed out after reportedly being replaced on the programme list by Wike loyalists.
The programme, held at the EUI Centre under the Renewed Hope Initiative, was designed to empower 500 women in the state. Speaking from China via a statement by his aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike condemned the walkout as a blatant disrespect to the offices of the President and First Lady.

He offered an apology to President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady on behalf of Rivers people who still respect his leadership. He maintained that the actions of a few women did not represent the character or values of the state.
Wike further accused Governor Fubara of spearheading the protest and contended that such would not lead to peace. Wike challenged Fubara to be honest with his intentions and to stop playing games against his public call for peace.
Wike argued that those who are genuinely in search of peace would never sponsor actions that subvert national leadership, citing that insincerity and the game of drama will not solve the political crisis in Rivers State.
