A Northern woman has raised a question about why people from the north are commonly referred to as “Aboki” in Nigeria.
The term “Aboki,” which means “my friend” in Hausa, is often used to refer to Northerners in southern parts of Nigeria, like the Southwest and Southeast. However, it has taken on negative meanings, sometimes being used as an insult to describe someone who is slow or less intelligent.
The lady expressed her concern about this, saying that using the term this way makes Northerners feel like second-class citizens.

iheloghara_indomitable: Calm down, dear. Every tribe has its own nicknames. The Yoruba call Hausa people “Aboki,” the Igbos call them “Ndi Ugu,” and the Yoruba are called “Ndi Ofe Mma Nu” by the Igbos. The Hausas call the Igbos “Yamiri,” and the Yorubas call them “Omo Yibo.” So, just relax 😂
