Former governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has lauded the development strides and achievements of Abia State governor Alex Otti after just 22 months in office.
Amaechi could not find the right words to express his amazement over what Otti is doing in Abia State in just 22 months in office as a governor and asked for his source of funds when other governors in the country are complaining of a lack of funds.
The APC chieftain made the remarks while leading a delegation of Governor Otti’s alumni from the University of Port Harcourt on a tour of projects in Abia State.
Speaking to newsmen, Amaechi said, “We are a delegation of Governor Alex Otti’s year mates from the University of Port Harcourt, those of us who graduated between 1980 and 1989.
“Seeing is believing. This is incredible—especially Port Harcourt Road. The last time I was here, it was littered with refuse and riddled with gullies, not potholes. To see the transformation is commendable,” he said.

“The question to ask is, where is he getting the money to fund all this? Many governors complain—genuinely—that there’s no money. So, Alex must tell us how he’s doing it,” he added.
Amaechi praised Governor Otti for the ongoing Omenuko Bridge project, which he claimed the old Civil War era bridge was a death trap due to its dilapidated state. A bridge that has been taking lives since the 1970s and 80s.
“What I saw there was terrifying. The old bridge looked like something out of the Civil War era. Why was it left in that condition all these years? Did the previous governors not see it? People even died there in the ‘70s and ‘80s,” Amaechi stated.
He also expressed delight over Otti’s choice of contractors, which includes Julius Berger, which he also patronized during his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
Other members of the delegation—Hon. Ernest Rowland Douglas, a retired diplomat; Dr. Chidi Ulelu; and Mr. Duke Odinde—also commended Governor Otti for his achievements so far, calling him “a homeboy and worthy colleague” who deserved their full support.
Rotimi Amaechi and the other delegates urged citizens of the state to support Otti, contending that if he continues in such a manner, his second-term bid would be a “walkover.”
Speaking on behalf of Governor Otti was his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, who took the delegation on the project tour, noting that the state government has made sure that every kobo that has been spent is duly justified.
“People asking where the money is coming from shows how prudent the governor has been. If others could emulate this, Nigeria would be a better place,” Ajagba said.
Projects inspected during the tour, according to Starnews, included Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Abiriba–Ohafia (Sections 1–3), Omenuko Bridge, Library Avenue (Bank Road), Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, and Port Harcourt Road, Aba.
