We Will Start Removing Beggars in Abuja from Monday — Wike
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has warned that roadside beggars in Abuja will be arrested if they don’t leave the streets by October 27, 2024. He expressed concern about the growing number of beggars, saying it poses a security risk to the city.
Wike made this announcement during the launch of the access road construction to the new judges’ quarters in Katampe. He emphasized that the presence of beggars on the streets is alarming and needs urgent attention for the safety of the metropolis.

He also mentioned how he revoked some land allocated to Julius Berger, a construction company, in the Katampe District, for failing to meet development requirements.
At the same event, which was attended by high-profile figures like Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Wike flagged off the construction of 40 new judges’ quarters. He revealed that 70% of the project’s funds had already been released after getting approval from the Federal Executive Council. The housing units will be divided among the FCT High Court, Federal High Court, and the Court of Appeal.
