The Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered a thrilling performance in Uyo on Sunday night, defeating the Cheetahs of Benin Republic 4–0 in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Nigeria’s victory was spearheaded by Victor Osimhen, who dazzled fans with a sensational hat-trick, while substitute Frank Onyeka sealed the win with a late strike. The result earned the Eagles a vital three points as they continue their push for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The second half began with Benin pressing high, but Osimhen quickly silenced any hopes of a comeback by completing his hat-trick in the 51st minute. The Super Eagles maintained dominance throughout, with captain Wilfred Ndidi controlling play in midfield and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali keeping a clean sheet.
As the game approached full time, substitute Frank Onyeka added a fourth goal with a powerful strike in the 90th minute, sealing an emphatic victory for Nigeria.
Despite the win, South Africa’s 3–0 triumph over Rwanda means the Super Eagles must wait to confirm their qualification. Still, Sunday’s performance has reignited hope and pride among Nigerian fans dreaming of a place in the 2026 World Cup.
