A viral video has surfaced online showing a group of Christians in South Africa waiting, praying and looking up to the sky, in anticipation of the Rapture after their pastor, Joshua Mhlakela, predicted it would begin on September 23 or 24.
Mhlakela, who has been trending on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), claimed he had a divine vision in which Jesus told him He was “coming soon.” Linking the event to the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah (also known biblically as Yom Teruah) the pastor declared that the Rapture would happen during the holy period.

In his interviews, the preacher insisted true believers would be taken to heaven while others would be left behind. His prophecy quickly went viral under the hashtag #RaptureTok, sparking heated debate across social media platforms.
While some of his followers gathered in prayer, others online mocked the prophecy, quoting the Bible verse that “no one knows the day or the hour” of Christ’s return. One critic described him as a “fear-mongering heretic,” while another quipped that if the Rapture did occur, “we must all be sinners because none of us were taken.”
Despite the failed prediction, the video of Christians waiting faithfully and praying heavily has continued to circulate widely.
