Bandits that Kidnapped Kebbi Schoolgirls Deny FG’s Claim in New Viral Video

Bandits behind the abduction of students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, have contradicted the Federal Government’s claim that the girls were rescued by security forces. They insist the schoolgirls regained freedom only after a negotiated settlement.

The attack, which took place on November 17, left one official dead and a security guard injured as 25 girls were taken away. According to a BBC report monitored in Gusau, two of the girls escaped while being marched into the forest, slipping away through nearby farmlands.

On November 19, the chairman of Danko/Wasagu Local Government, Hussaini Aliyu, released the full list of the 25 abducted students. By Tuesday, November 25, 24 of the girls had returned home, with the government announcing that they had been “rescued.”

Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle praised security operatives for what he described as a successful operation carried out under President Bola Tinubu’s directive. The President, through his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, also commended the security agencies.

But in a video circulating online, one of the armed kidnappers openly contradicted these claims. He interrogates the girls about military jets that flew over the forest and boasts that the government could not rescue them by force. He maintained that the release happened only because negotiations took place.

They asked the girls if they were harmed in any way. “No,” the girls responded. ‘Were you sexually-harassed or starved of food?’ “No”, the girls answered. They then told them they would be taken to their homes safely due to the agreement they reached with the government.

At the end of the footage, the bandit declares, “We are letting you go after negotiations. Your government cannot rescue you with might. Your government has failed.”
