Senate President Godswill Akpabio has flatly declared he never considered resigning despite the sexual harassment allegation by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
During Thursday’s plenary at the National Assembly in Abuja, Akpabio reacted to a vote of confidence motion initiated by Senate Majority Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele.
Bamidele further noted that some critics had expected Akpabio to resign during the scandal, but the Senate’s approval was proof against that.

In his response, Akpabio sidestepped the allegations as baseless and again asserted that there was no evidence to call for resignation. He highlighted cases elsewhere in the world where individuals were unfairly accused and ultimately exonerated, relating himself to their situations.
Akpabio guaranteed that those waiting for his resignation would be disappointed, asserting he would never succumb to misinformation. The Senate’s ratification appeared to justify his stance and indicate unanimity among lawmakers.
The allegation, which has received public attention due to the political standing of the two individuals, has ignited controversy nationwide. Akpabio’s firm denial and the Senate’s backing are clear indications that he will remain in office uninterrupted, confident that the truth will eventually prevail.
