Public affairs analyst and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has said that President Bola Tinubu has so far outperformed what Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, would have achieved if elected.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Omokri argued that Tinubu’s controversial fuel subsidy removal was a decision Obi had also pledged to make, yet is now criticized for.
“I still hold that view that the President is by far better than anything Peter Obi would have done. We can go into specifics,” Omokri said.
He recalled a previous interview where Obi stated he would remove fuel subsidy if elected, suggesting Tinubu simply acted on the same promise, but faster.

“So, what did the President do? The President took out the fuel subsidy on day one, immediately. So, would he (Obi) have done it differently?” he queried.
Omokri also pointed to international financial endorsements of Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the removal of the subsidy and naira floatation.
“And if you look at the World Bank, if you look at the IMF, these guys have said what the President did was right… But let’s assume that the World Bank and IMF, maybe they are neocolonialists… What about Moody’s? what about Fitch?” he said.
He noted that top global ratings agencies like Fitch and Moody’s upgraded Nigeria’s credit outlook to stable, citing Tinubu’s reforms.
Omokri concluded by urging Nigerians to support the President, insisting the painful but necessary reforms are beginning to yield results.
