At least three people lost their lives, while others sustained injuries when a trailer carrying a 40-foot container fell and crushed three tricycles at the Mgbaemene Bus Stop near Upper Iweka, along the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway in Anambra State.
The tragic incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 16. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the trailer was navigating a bad section of the road filled with deep potholes when he lost control. The trailer reportedly tipped over, trapping occupants of nearby tricycles attempting to maneuver through the same spot.

Residents, drivers, and passersby quickly rushed to the scene, pulling out some victims, while others remained trapped. The situation sparked outrage as locals set up a bonfire to protest the government’s neglect of the deplorable road.

Onabe stated that the cause of the accident was linked to the poor condition of the road. She added that an FRSC towing van was used to lift the container and clear the area for free traffic flow.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, expressed deep sadness over the incident and urged road users to exercise caution to prevent similar tragedies.
