Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stirred confusion and sparked a wave of reactions on social media after making a verbal blunder during a plenary session held on Tuesday, July 23, to honor the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Senate had convened a special session to pay tribute to Buhari, who passed away on July 13, 2025, in a UK hospital at the age of 82. During his speech, Akpabio mistakenly referred to the burial of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu instead of Buhari.
In his words, Akpabio said; “The whole country is very proud of what this administration has done in the way and manner President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was honoured and was buried…”

Realizing the slip, he quickly corrected himself; “President Buhari, rather… sorry. President Buhari was honoured and buried. You will also observe that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be forgotten for what he did during the burial ceremony of late President Muhammadu Buhari.”
The goof, caught on video, quickly went viral online, with many Nigerians reacting to the moment with amusement.
Akpabio’s blunder is just another on record, after that of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, which Igbo TV reported. They both mentioned current and alive President Bola Tinubu instead of late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
