Human rights activists Omoyele Sowore and Marshal Abubakar have condemned the ongoing trial of #EndBadGovernance protesters, calling it a violation of citizens’ rights and a waste of time.
Speaking on Wednesday outside the Federal High Court in Abuja after a court session, Sowore warned that Nigerian youths are becoming more organized and fearless.
“The young people of Nigeria are getting better organized, bolder, and they are going to confront their oppressors,” he said. “The next protest will also include police officers anyway. We are fighting for their pensions and gratuity, so that protest will be bigger than the last one.”
Sowore, who has faced multiple court cases for his activism, stressed that no amount of prosecution would stop Nigerians from demanding a better country. He pointed out that the youths are no longer afraid of the government since after the previous protest, where many of them ended up in court, and that even a youth corps member criticized Tinubu without fear.

Sowore also revealed that the protest might begin by July and last until September and that the police are expected to join the protest. He said many of them have been calling and inquiring when.
The activists called on the Attorney General of the Federation to withdraw the charges, pointing out that peaceful protest is a constitutional right.
Human rights lawyer Marshal Abubakar echoed this sentiment, expressing disappointment that the AGF allowed the prosecution to continue.
“Where is justice in charging Nigerians who only asked that the welfare of the people be prioritized?” he asked.
Citing Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution, Abubakar said every Nigerian has the right to dissent and question government policies without fear of intimidation.
“This charge is incompetent, this charge is wrong, this charge is oppressive, and this charge should go,” he declared.
Their remarks come amid growing public concern over the government’s response to peaceful dissent. Abubakar concluded by reminding the government that President Tinubu and his allies once benefited from protests too.
