A Nigerian lawyer, Franc Utoo, has made disturbing claims that some soldiers in Giza, a community in Nasarawa State, are involved in training and leading Fulanis behind deadly attacks on Tiv communities in both Benue, where over 200 people were killed, and Nasarawa State.
Speaking in an interview with BusinessDay, Utoo described the attacks as well-coordinated and tactically executed, suggesting a level of military expertise and inside collaboration.
“And let me tell you, let me also shock you; about seven soldiers joined them from Giza, the community adjoining my own village,” he said. “They arrested one who uttered all this, made this confession. He said some of the soldiers from Giza trained them in Fulani stuff. And they joined them. They command the whole thing.”

Utoo claimed the Fulanis arrived on over 100 motorcycles, attacking communities in broad daylight. He said entire villages had been taken over by Fulani families—not just for grazing, but for settlement.
“They brought them, you know, their families occupying Tiv homes, Tiv houses, which are still standing… and they have their kids there, not just their cattle,” he added.
He further accused security agencies of ignoring repeated warnings from locals. “We communicated to the security forces—nothing has been done.”
Utoo also alleged that these armed Fulanis now operate freely in areas like Giza and Kadorko, even holding open meetings while armed.
He expressed deep frustration with what he described as biased silence from top officials and Northern leaders when Middle Belt communities are attacked, noting the contrasting responses when similar incidents happen in other parts of the country.
