Texas Governor Ted Abbott has announced a ban on Sharia law and the establishment of so-called Sharia-compliant towns or cities in the state.
Abbott made the statement on X after a video surfaced showing protesters carrying placards in support of Sharia law. In the footage, an Islamic cleric in the Houston area was seen urging shopkeepers to stop selling alcohol, pork, and lottery tickets, arguing that such products violated Islamic teachings.

Reacting, the governor wrote, “I signed laws that BAN Sharia Law and Sharia Compounds in Texas. No business and no individual should fear fools like this.” He also urged residents to report any attempt to impose Sharia compliance to local law enforcement or the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The cleric, speaking through a megaphone in the viral video, told the crowd that Muslims should “love what Allah loves and hate what Allah hates,” vowing to visit stores in the neighborhood that sell items contrary to Islamic beliefs.
Abbott’s move has drawn wide attention, with his directive reinforcing the state’s stance against religious-based governance.
