Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, after refusing to honor a summons by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), following allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking, was seen with luggage at the airport in an attempt to flee the country to the U.S., where he is also a citizen.
In a video shared on his TikTok account on Monday, Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, dismissed the allegations and openly declared he would not comply with the agency’s demands. “I’m not coming. I have not committed any crime. All I did was speak,” he said.
NAPTIP had declared the singer wanted last Friday, citing his failure to respond to multiple invitations. The agency’s actions followed a controversial Instagram livestream in which Darlington claimed to have had sex with a 15-year-old girl—an incident that allegedly occurred on May 27, Children’s Day. The statement drew widespread condemnation from the public, women’s rights groups, and the Lagos State government.

The agency urged the public to provide information on his whereabouts and emphasized the gravity of the allegations. However, Speed Darlington accused NAPTIP of trying to use his name for clout. “Where is your evidence? Who is the complainant? You want to use me for social media attention,” he said in his response.
Akpi had also demanded ₦2.5 million and flight arrangements if he was expected to appear in Abuja, likening the summons to a paid appearance. “Because I call that appearance,” he added.
Speed Darlington defended his actions, claiming the viral video was a publicity stunt. “There is no crime. All I did was try to claim it. You have no evidence,” he insisted, dismissing the controversy as part of his music promotion strategy. “I need controversy to eat,” he added.
NAPTIP had initially invited him to appear on May 30, which he ignored, offering June 26 instead. The agency rejected the new date, citing urgency and warning of legal consequences for noncompliance.
A new video showed him at the airport with some luggage, which people believe he is fleeing the country to avoid NAPTIP’s arrest. In another video, Speed Darlington was seen in the U.S. feeling happy and singing, “I left Lagos girls for New York girls.”
