The Senator representing Kogi Central in the 10th senate, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, took her case with the Senate President of Nigeria, Senator God’swill Akpabio, to the UN Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Videos of Senator Natasha-Akpoti reporting what she calls political victimization, punishment for speaking out, corruption, and gender-based violence by the Nigerian senate at the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Union for Women in New York, U.S., on Tuesday March 11, 2025, have circulated the internet.

The Kogi State senator brought up the issue of her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Akpabio, saying she was suspended after submitting a petition to the Senate about her sexual harassment claims.

When beginning her speech, she told the parliament she came with a heavy heart. She listed the punishment that accompanied her six-month suspension, which includes stopping her salary and allowances, removing her official security and vehicles, and withdrawing her legislative aides.

Senator Natasha was seen weeping while delivering her speech. She said if a female senator could be treated this way, imagine what a common Nigerian woman would be going through.
