Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday during an outdoor speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem.
The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m. local time. Authorities say the fatal shot was fired from a building approximately 200 yards away.
About 3,000 people attended the event, part of Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour,” including six campus police officers and Kirk’s own security detail.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing Kirk abruptly clutch his neck, bleed heavily, and collapse under a tent following the gunfire.

Law enforcement initially detained two persons of interest but later clarified neither was the shooter. The FBI and local authorities are continuing the manhunt.
Immediately after the shooting, a man alleged to be the sniper was spotted at the top of a building running. Another individual camera, before the shooting, spotted someone lying at the top of a building 200 meters away from Kirk.
President Donald Trump, Utah Governor Spencer Cox, and other political leaders issued statements condemning the killing. Trump ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Kirk. University officials announced the campus will be closed until September 14.

Kirk, 31, was known for engaging young audiences through campus debates and media content. His death has sparked debate over political violence and campus safety in the U.S.
