A man has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command following a viral CCTV video that showed gunmen snatching a Toyota Avalon at gunpoint in Port Harcourt.

The incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. at Alakahia near Choba in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, was captured on CCTV.

In the video, a young man and his friend had just entered their car when another vehicle, a Toyota Camry, suddenly pulled up beside them. Armed men jumped out, dragged the driver from his car, and sped off with the vehicle.

Following the video’s circulation on social media, the police launched a manhunt for the culprits. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, one of the suspects, identified as 42-year-old Iruo Young, was tracked and arrested at his hideout in the Ikoku area of Port Harcourt.

Iringe-Koko said the suspect confessed to taking part in the robbery and provided details about his accomplices. She added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the gang and recover both the stolen car and the weapons used.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the swift action of the officers and thanked residents for their cooperation. He warned that the command would continue to clamp down on criminals across the state.
