The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old ex-convict, John Samuel, who was caught on CCTV shooting a businessman and robbing him of a gold necklace in Ikeja.
Samuel, from Akwa Ibom State, was tracked and arrested in his hideout in Epe on Friday, September 19, weeks after the August 18 attack on Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue.
Police said he fired at his victim, identified as businessman Gbenga Obama, before snatching his necklace and valuables, while an accomplice waited with a getaway motorcycle.

According to the command’s deputy spokesperson, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, Samuel had only recently completed a six-year jail term for armed robbery but returned to violent crime after his release. “He is notorious for shooting victims before dispossessing them of valuables,” Oluseyi said.
The suspect confessed to selling the stolen necklace for ₦4 million, far below its actual worth. Police say efforts are underway to arrest his accomplices.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohudare Jimoh, commended the officers who carried out the operation and assured Lagos residents that the gang will be brought to justice once investigations are concluded.
