Police Fire Tear Gas at Protesters in Port Harcourt

As the ‘Take it Back’ nationwide protest holds today, Monday, April 7, 2025, demonstrators in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, faced an antagonizing encounter with men of the Nigerian police.

The protest began at the Isaac Boro Park, with the number of participants increasing as they moved ahead.

They chanted solidarity songs with placards while heading towards Aba Express Road. However, they were halted by the police, which denied them passage to the road. The police asked them to take their protest to another place, but the protesters refused.

The protesters didn’t give in but continued marching until they reached CFC junction, where the police decided to be more aggressive.

Tear gas was fired at the protesters to disperse them, which caused disorder, with many running from the scene.
