Controversial social commentator Vincent Otse Martins, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan (VDM), has stirred debate after claiming that Lagos State is holding back Nigeria’s progress. According to him, Lagos enjoys a monopoly on key facilities and infrastructure that should be spread across other parts of the country.
VDM questioned why almost all goods entering Nigeria must pass through Lagos, stressing that this concentration of seaports and airports sidelines other states.

He argued that creating alternative seaports in places like Delta and Kogi could drive development, reduce costs of goods, and ease pressure on Lagos. “Everything lands in Lagos, and this doesn’t make sense. There’s a monopoly,” he said.
He also pointed out that apart from Abuja, Lagos remains the only city with a fully functional international airport, forcing most foreign arrivals into the state. He argued that states such as Rivers, Enugu, and Anambra should already have major working international airports.
VDM concluded that Lagos’s dominance in commerce, ports, and air travel is unfair and stifles growth elsewhere. “Spread these major facilities to other states, and their revenue would increase as well,” he insisted.
