A video of a Nigerian lawmaker gifting his constituents one motorcycle tyre each, has made the rounds on the internet, arousing debates among Nigerians.
The man, Hon. Idowu Ibukunle, who represents Yagba West Local Government in the Kogi State House of Assembly, gained public attention after the video of his empowerment went viral.
He is seen in the video gifting men of his constituent one-wrapped tyre each, while shaking them and telling them “congratulations.”
As the video made the rounds recently, Hon. Ibukunle defends himself, saying the video is old and that the event was in August 2023, when he just won the election.

He explained that he did it because of the fuel subsidy removal, which placed a severe financial burden on commuters and passengers, so it was a way of aiding to abate the impact of the fuel subsidy.
“The program was not a recent one, as some are trying to make it seem,” Idowu stated. “It was an initiative specifically designed for commercial motorcycle riders in Yagba West at a time when transportation fares had become unbearable due to the removal of fuel subsidies.
“At that period, the people were struggling with high transport costs, and I felt the need to step in and provide support where it was most needed.”
“In addition, seven motorcycles were donated to the local transport association, a gesture aimed at further empowering the transport sector in Yagba West,” he said.
According to the lawmaker, the initiative was welcomed by his constituents; hence, the social media criticisms are not valid.
