Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili recounts her clash with Senator Nwaebonyi at the Senate earlier today, admitting that she told him to “shut up,” explaining that they were told not to speak, but he was talking.
According to Ezekwesili, Senator Nwaebonyi made an inappropriate statement, talking about seriousness, so she raised her hand and responded, “I actually think that’s a wrong choice of words. We are not unserious people, and this is a serious matter.”
The conversation continued, and eventually, the Senate Ethics Committee decided that, since the petitioner refused to proceed with the main petition until assurances were given regarding two objections, the matter could not move forward.

It was stated that the issue was sub judice due to two ongoing court cases—one involving the wife of the Senate President. Based on that, the discussion was deemed inappropriate for the Senate to deliberate on.
At this point, Dr. Abiola questioned the relevance of bringing the case forward in the first place.
The argument escalated when Senator Nwaebonyi stated, “If they are not serious about giving any testimony, I am here representing the Senate President as a respondent, and I am prepared to speak because we cannot continue like this.”
In response, Ezekwesili retorted, “Can you please shut up? Because we were just told that we couldn’t speak, yet you are speaking without facing the same restrictions.”
And that is how they began throwing words and abuses ate each other.
