Kwara State Police Command has arrested a Muslim cleric, Mohammed, over the disappearance and gruesome death of a final-year student, Hafusa. While in custody, Mohammed claimed he had no hand in her death but admitted to dismembering and disposing of her body.
According to Mohammed, he and Hafusa were in a relationship after meeting on Facebook. On the day of the incident, she visited his apartment in Olumbade after attending a school event. She reportedly complained of hunger, prompting him to leave the house to buy food.
However, before he left, he noticed that she was gasping for breath and later recalled that she had previously mentioned being asthmatic. Upon returning, he discovered she had died. In a state of shock and panic, he failed to seek help and instead dismembered her body, disposing of it at a public refuse dump.

“My name is Mohammed. I’m a Muslim cleric. I’m just about to gain admission into Kwara State University (KWASU). I live in a rented apartment in Olumbade. The girl is Hafusa. She is my girlfriend. I met her on Facebook. I didn’t kill her. I am just a victim of circumstance.
“She told me they had a society function at 1 p.m. after school that day. She got back at after 3 p.m. When she arrived, she told me she hadn’t eaten, so I went to get her food.
“However, she was gasping for breath when I was about to go buy the food. She had earlier told me that she was asthmatic. I was in shock when she died. So I couldn’t cry out for help.
“I dismembered her body and disposed of it at the public refuse dump because I couldn’t think of any better way. This happened on Monday. Nothing is missing. I have never done this before. This is my first time.”
Despite his claims of innocence, police authorities are continuing their investigation. Mohammed remains in custody as law enforcement works to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Hafusa’s death.
