A grieving father in Abuja has accused staff of a private hospital in the Gidan Mangoro area of causing the death of his newborn baby over an unpaid bill of just N8,000.
In a viral video recorded inside the hospital, the devastated man claimed his wife had attended antenatal care at the facility from the beginning of her pregnancy and had never owed the hospital a single naira. According to him, trouble began on the day of delivery when he was asked to pay N8,000 for a procedure.

He said he immediately transferred N3,000, which was the amount he had at the time, but alleged that the nurse on duty refused to proceed until the full balance was paid. He claimed that while they delayed, the baby (already in a fragile condition and dependent on oxygen) was left unattended, leading to complications that resulted in the child’s death.
“This is where my baby died,” he cried in the video. “They killed my child because of N8,000. I begged this woman to save my baby. My baby was already weak; he had been moved from hospital to hospital on oxygen. But she refused to continue until I completed the payment.”
The heartbroken father also said his wife, still admitted and unwell, was misled by staff who allegedly told her the child had been taken to another hospital.
