A Bayelsa State High Court judge, Justice E.G. Umokoro, was kidnapped on Saturday evening, June 21, in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The incident reportedly happened around 7:00 p.m. near a popular eatery—Kilimanjaro—in the Ekeki area along Chief Melford Okilo Expressway. Justice Umokoro, who presides over High Court 7, was said to be attacked by a group of masked gunmen dressed in black uniforms.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers attempted to shoot the judge but missed. They then used an unmarked white Hilux van to block his path and forcefully abducted him. Despite the struggle, they managed to push him into the van and drive off.
Interestingly, the gunmen left behind the judge’s official vehicle—a black Toyota Prado—at the scene of the incident.
A short video clip shared online shows the moment Justice Umokoro was struggling with the kidnappers before being taken away.
As of the time of this report, the Bayelsa State Police Command has not issued any official statement regarding the abduction.
