Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has officially launched Enugu Air, the state’s first-owned airline, for domestic flight operations across Nigeria, describing it as a bold step toward unlocking economic opportunities and transforming the region into a hub for business and tourism.
The historic unveiling took place on Monday, July 7, 2025, with the inaugural flight marking what Mbah called “a gift to Ndi Enugu” and a milestone in his administration’s developmental agenda. He emphasized that the airline reflects the success of strategic public-private partnerships and is part of his promise to make Enugu Nigeria’s top destination for investment and living.
“We began this journey with no empty promises. Enugu Air is more than an airline—it’s a symbol of what’s possible when vision meets action,” Mbah said. “We are opening doors to sectors that once felt out of reach.”

The launch comes weeks after Mbah marked his second year in office, and he noted that the airline project aligns with his broader goal to improve infrastructure, attract investors, and boost tourism.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo clarified public concerns over the status of the Enugu Airport. He explained that the airport is not being sold but concessioned to private investors with support from the federal government and aviation stakeholders.
“We are handing Enugu Airport to investors who will modernize it, including the cargo terminal,” Keyamo said. “This means direct export opportunities from Enugu, creating jobs and driving regional economic growth.”
The minister commended Mbah for not waiting on bureaucracy, praising his proactive efforts in drawing investment to the state’s aviation sector.
