Gospel Artistes are not Soul winners, their Intentions were never Aligned with the Gospel - Pastor Chris Criticizes Gospel Artistes in Nigeria

Popular Nigerian pastor and General Overseer of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has voiced out concerns over the growing number of well-known gospel musicians abandoning Christianity, calling it a troubling trend.

The assertion made by Pastor Chris that these musicians were never genuinely dedicated to winning people over to Christ in the first place has generated a lot of discussion among Nigerian Christians.

“They were not winning souls,” said Pastor Chris in a recent sermon. Regarding the departure of certain well-known gospel singers from the faith, he said, “Their intentions were never aligned with the mission of the gospel.” These musicians, many of whom had a sizable fan base because of their motivational songs, have gained notoriety recently for their contentious departures from Christianity.

Pastor Chris did not specifically name anyone, but his remarks struck a chord with many who had seen the change in course among some of the top gospel musicians in Nigeria.

The clergyman accused them of making money from the church, charging fee to perform in the church, while they claim they are praising and singing for God.

A number of well-known singers who formerly used their platforms to share the gospel have openly abandoned their faith or turned away from gospel music in favor of secular careers. Most are so into the business of making money with their gospel music.

The pattern calls into question the sincerity of some of these musicians’ devotion to the Christian faith. Many people think that their focus may have shifted away from their spiritual calling as a result of their success and celebrity.

Pastor Chris emphasized the value of maintaining a laser-like focus on evangelism and soul-winning while cautioning against the temptations of fame and financial wealth that could influence believers, particularly famous celebrities.

Critics contend that although these artists’ departures are depressing, they are a reflection of a greater social problem in which material achievement frequently takes precedence over spiritual obligation. However, the message from Pastor Chris serves as a reminder of the value of steadfast faith and commitment to the gospel.
