The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally released socialite and activist Vincent Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan (VDM), from their custody.
This was made known by VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adesanju, through a video he posted on his social media handle.
In the video, Adesanju drove the car while VeryDarkMan sat behind. In his usual manner, he said hello to his fans and said something about the EFCC charging him for money laundering.
“How can someone without money launder money?” he asked mockingly. From his facial expression, VDM was happy to be out.
VeryDarkMan was arrested on Friday at a Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) branch in Abuja, where he went with his mother to make inquiries about the continuous deduction of money from her account.

According to eyewitness accounts, VDM was frisked, beaten, blindfolded, and forced into the vehicle by the security agents that took him.
The news of VDM’s arrest had caused an uproar in the country, leading to protests and a campaign against GTBank by his supporters nationwide.
Many people, including very notable individuals in the country, namely Labour Party 2033 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Human Rights lawyer and activist Omoyele Sowore, celebrities such as Davido, Naira Marley, Peller, etc., had condemned his arrest and the manner in which he was arrested, which resembled abduction.
Peter Obi was particularly worried with the way he was arrested, which, according to him, could leave a room for criminals to mimic, as Nigerians can no longer distinguish between lawful arrests and unlawful abductions.
VDM’s friend, who was also arrested and later freed, took to social media to narrate the incident of the arrest, recalling how VDM was tortured by the security agents, leaving him with wounds, and also refused to take food to him.
While Nigerians waited to hear the reason for his arrest, the EFCC then released a statement stating that VDM was arrested on account of petitions on alleged financial crimes against him and that he had been invited several times by the agency but refused to show up.
In the statement, EFCC included that VDM has been granted an administrative bail while his case has been taken to court.
