A heated controversy has erupted online after a woman accused an InDrive driver of allegedly staging a robbery during her trip from Surulere to Mafoluku, Lagos.
The passenger, identified as Itohan, claimed the driver, James Oluwatosin, faked a car breakdown around Onipanu and refused to move, allowing thugs to surround them. She said the robbers offered her and her friend two options—“get robbed or make a transfer.” According to her, she chose to send ₦8,000 to avoid being attacked.
Following her viral post on X (formerly Twitter), InDrive suspended Oluwatosin, who had a 4.85-star rating. But the driver has now publicly denied the accusation, calling it a “complete misunderstanding.”

He explained that his car developed an electrical fault, forcing him to park at a well-lit corner to check it. While on the phone with his mechanic, he said local touts approached, demanding ₦20,000. He claimed he tried to negotiate, but Itohan stepped in and eventually settled them for ₦8,000.
After fixing the car with help from the same thugs, he completed the trip, received ₦4,000 from Itohan, and thought the matter was over—until his account was suspended.
Social media reactions are now divided, with many Nigerians calling out the lady for making such false accusations, while calling for InDrive to properly investigate before punishing drivers over unverified claims.
