A serving female NYSC member has opened up about a shocking reality she says she meets daily in the secondary school where she was posted. According to her, many of the students (some barely in JSS2) talk and behave in ways that left her completely disturbed.
She said girls around 12 to 14 openly discuss ending pregnancies like it’s something normal, and even the boys speak about things far beyond their age with a kind of boldness that frightened her. What worries her most is how casually they talk about it, like it’s just another topic in school.

But what broke her spirit, she said, is the behaviour of some teachers. Instead of correcting these children, she alleged that a few staff members encourage the bad habits or at least pretend not to see them. She recalled overhearing comments from teachers that made her question if the adults themselves were part of the problem.
The corper wondered how society changed so fast. At 12, she said the only thing she cared about was festive clothes, not the heavy issues these kids now throw around every day.
She admitted she wants to make a difference, but the situation feels bigger than her. Right now, she’s just trying to figure out where to start, hoping she can help even one child before things get worse.
