Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of unlawfully deducting ₦100 billion every month from Nigeria’s Federation Account without legislative approval, a move he described as unconstitutional and grounds for impeachment.
Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, El-Rufai alleged that the deductions have been ongoing for over 15 months, amounting to a staggering ₦1.5 trillion. He claimed the funds are being allocated to security agencies, yet insecurity remains rampant across the country.
“For over a year now, ₦100 billion is deducted monthly from the Federation Account and given to security agencies without any appropriation by the National Assembly or State Assemblies. This is clearly unconstitutional and, in my view, an impeachable offense,” El-Rufai stated.

The former minister expressed concern over the lack of transparency, questioning why such massive funds have not translated into improved national security. “Where is the result? Insecurity is still worsening. What’s the money being used for?” he asked.
He also criticized Tinubu’s lack of tangible infrastructure achievements, noting that nearly two years into his administration, no new federal projects have been initiated or completed.
“President Tinubu went to Kaduna to commission projects, 90% of which I completed during my tenure. This government has had access to more money than any before it, yet there’s little to show,” he said.
His remarks have sparked widespread reactions online. While some Nigerians expressed shock at the revelation, others questioned his timing and motives, recalling that El-Rufai once strongly backed Tinubu’s presidency.
