A Nigerian female soldier, Corporal Marian Agumba, has accused senior officers in the Nigerian Army of repeated sexual harassment, intimidation, and physical abuse, saying her life and that of her young child are now in danger.
In a viral video shared on Thursday, Agumba tearfully appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Chief of Defence Staff to intervene. She said her troubles began years ago after she rejected sexual advances from some superior officers, claiming the rejection led to constant victimisation throughout her 13-year service.
According to her, two senior officers (Lieutenant Colonel Osarema and Lieutenant Colonel Nkanan) allegedly ordered her assault and illegal detention after she refused their demands.

“Because I said no, they locked me and my two-year-old child in the guardroom and later reduced my rank,” she said.
Agumba added that despite her voluntary discharge from the Army in July, the threats had continued, with claims that some officers wanted to revoke her discharge certificate and deny her benefits.
She also described what she called a culture of sexual exploitation in the military, saying many female soldiers suffer in silence for refusing to yield to senior officers.
“I just want peace, justice, and to be left alone,” she pleaded.

The Nigerian Army has not yet issued an official response, though the video has triggered widespread calls for an independent investigation.
