Atiku–Obi & Amaechi Coalition Meeting Turned Chaotic after Delegates From Jigawa Disrupted the Process

Political meeting aimed at building a coalition for the 2027 elections turned chaotic when delegates from Jigawa State disrupted the event over a disagreement about who should speak for them.

The meeting, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, brought together key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi. It was organized by the National Political Consultative Group (North) as part of efforts to unite ahead of the next general election.

Trouble started when former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, announced someone to represent Jigawa State. This decision was immediately rejected by some Jigawa delegates, who stormed the stage in protest, shouting that they would not accept the person chosen to speak for them.

Security agents, including police, DSS officers, and private guards, quickly stepped in to calm the situation and protect the high-profile politicians present. After minutes of heated argument and back-and-forth, peace was restored, and a compromise was reached. Mustapha Lamido, the son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, along with another delegate, was chosen to speak on behalf of the state.
