An Intense Fight Erupted at APC North-East Meeting Over Refusal to Endorse Shettima for Tinubu's Second Term

A stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Northeast turned chaotic on Sunday after Vice President Kashim Shettima was conspicuously omitted during endorsements for President Bola Tinubu’s second term.

The meeting, held in Gombe State, was attended by APC governors, ministers, lawmakers, and other key leaders from the region.

Tensions rose when the party’s National Vice Chairman (North-East), Mustapha Salihu, publicly endorsed Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for the 2027 election but failed to mention Vice President Shettima, who hails from Borno State in the North-East. His omission triggered outrage among delegates, who shouted and attempted to confront him physically. Security agents quickly stepped in and escorted him out of the hall.

To ease the tension, APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Bukar Dalori, took the stage and gave a joint endorsement of both Tinubu and Shettima. However, the situation worsened when APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje also failed to acknowledge Shettima in his own endorsement speech for President Tinubu.

Ganduje’s silence further inflamed the gathering. He too was whisked away by security amid growing unrest.

The meeting ended abruptly as frustrations boiled over. A video from the event shared by AIT Online showed angry attendees hurling chairs and attacking each other.
