Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after a short vacation in London, putting to rest speculations about his health.
Akpabio, who had attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva between July 29 and 31, proceeded to the United Kingdom afterwards for what aides described as a brief rest. His absence had sparked rumors that he was critically ill and receiving treatment abroad.
He arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 4 a.m. on Monday and was welcomed at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.

Speaking to reporters on his arrival, Akpabio dismissed the speculation, urging Nigerians not to rely on social media reports. “If you listen to the social media, you will go to war,” he said.
The Senate President assured that the National Assembly would deliver “robust legislative engagements” when plenary resumes, adding that Nigerians should expect stronger collaboration between the legislature and other arms of government.
He also defended the presence of a large Nigerian delegation at the Geneva conference, saying it was part of efforts to strengthen parliamentary democracy and ensure better governance outcomes for citizens.
His return follows earlier denials by Senator Gbenga Daniel and Akpabio’s media aide, Jackson Udom, who had both dismissed claims of his alleged hospitalization in London.
