Security operatives in Delta State have recovered ₦7.5 million from suspected kidnappers following a gun battle in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place on Thursday night, came just two days after one Mr. Christopher Owah was abducted in front of his home near St. Thomas College, Akwualusi, Ibusa.
According to activist and founder of the Safe City Volunteer Foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, the kidnappers had demanded a ₦7.5 million ransom, threatening to kill the victim if payment was delayed. After the family delivered the ransom, the Safe City team, working with the 63 Brigade, Asaba, and the Nigerian Federal Security Service (NFSS), tracked the suspects using a tech-based air surveillance system.

A fierce gunfight reportedly ensued in the kidnappers’ hideout, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon the ransom money.
Gwamnishu confirmed that the full ₦7.5 million was recovered during the operation, though the suspects escaped into the forest.
He praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for supporting community security efforts and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring a safer Delta State.
“The promise of more security for Deltans is being fulfilled,” Gwamnishu stated.
