Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has pledged to end the rising wave of killings in the state and restore lasting peace, especially in communities plagued by gunmen.
The governor gave this assurance in a condolence message to the people of Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area, following the recent killing of innocent residents by yet-to-be-identified attackers.
Clearly pained by the incident, Uzodimma blamed the crisis on what he called “wicked politicians” who, he said, are determined to derail the state’s progress. “These individuals are hell-bent on frustrating government’s effort to secure the state,” he said.

Recalling a similar tragedy two years ago in the same area, the governor revealed that the suspect who beheaded a former local government chairman had recently been arrested and had named his sponsors during interrogation. “Some of them are already being questioned by the police,” Uzodimma added, assuring that more arrests will follow.
He didn’t hide his disappointment with individuals pretending to support him while secretly undermining the government.
“You can’t claim to be with me and be part of a conspiracy that takes innocent lives,” he said sternly.
To strengthen local security, Uzodimma announced that every community in Imo would, within two weeks, have a fully operational vigilante group, equipped and supported by the state.
The governor called on all Imolites to cooperate with the initiative and warned those politicizing the state’s security issues to desist before the law catches up with them.
He also appealed to residents to support one another through the state’s health insurance scheme, urging well-meaning individuals to help the less privileged gain access to free healthcare.
In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine Agoawike urged Christians to live in peace, stressing that earthly wealth means nothing without God.
