Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has raised fresh concerns over rising insecurity, warning that terrorists have already infiltrated several communities across the South-West, reports SaharaReporters.

Speaking in an interview with Central TV at his Lagos residence, Adams said intelligence available to him points to a looming coordinated attack on states in the region. He described the situation as “deeply troubling,” noting that recent events across the country clearly show a growing threat.

According to him, credible sources have revealed that armed groups have quietly settled in parts of Yorubaland, using nearby Kogi and Kwara States as testing grounds. “Kogi and Kwara are like buffer zones,” he said. “What they are doing there is to test the ground before launching major attacks on Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and even Lagos.”

While he did not name the specific sources of the intelligence, Adams linked the threat to known armed factions such as bandits, violent herdsmen, Boko Haram, ISIS, and ISWAP, adding that the groups now operate in splinter cells spread across the country. He also alleged that foreign actors are coordinating some of these activities.

Adams stressed that the motives behind the attacks vary—from economic to political and ethnic interests. He also criticised claims downplaying religious persecution in the Middle Belt, arguing that the scale and pattern of violence in states like Benue and Plateau cannot be ignored.
