A routine morning training session turned tragic on Friday, January 31, 2025, as a vehicle plowed into a group of soldiers near the Myoung Barracks Army Sports Camp in Yaba, in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos State.
The incident, reportedly caused by a suspected drunk driver, left at least four soldiers dead and 32 others injured.
According to eyewitness accounts, the soldiers, who were undergoing their regular morning training, had no time to react when the vehicle, allegedly driven by a suspected drunk driver, veered into their path at high speed.

One soldier, who narrowly escaped the tragedy, recounted the moment with shock. “It was chaotic; there was blood everywhere. I was only spared because I was at the back of the formation,” he said.
Reports also has it that the vehicle was occupied by three young men believed to be internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Boys.”
In the chaotic aftermath, one of the occupants fled the scene, while the other two were apprehended by enraged soldiers. Videos circulating on social media show the suspects being severely beaten, with their car later vandalized.
According to @CaesarisOP on X: “Armies were doing their morning marching parade this morning at Shomolu (Morocco), Lagos.
“Some boys were over speeding killed 4 military personnel.
“I wasn’t allowed to take pics cause the area was restricted.
“The accident aren’t looking nice at all”
The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
