The Federal Government has revealed that more than 700 high-profile Boko Haram and other terrorism suspects are currently being prosecuted across the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this while addressing ongoing trials and convictions linked to terrorism. He noted that a Special Court established for Boko Haram-related cases had held over seven sittings, securing convictions for more than 700 suspects, with fresh trials ongoing.

“The Special Court for Boko Haram cases has held more than seven sittings, securing convictions for over 700 high-profile suspects. It is now in its eighth session, with trials continuing,” Idris said in an interview with PUNCH.
He added that the prosecutions are part of the government’s broader efforts to uphold justice, strengthen the rule of law, and ensure accountability in counterterrorism operations.
According to Idris, the Attorney-General of the Federation is working closely with the judiciary to accelerate the prosecution process, while the Department of State Services (DSS) has completed investigations into major terror incidents, including the Owo Church attack, the Nyanya bombings, and the Yelwata attacks.
He further disclosed that more than 17,000 terrorism suspects remain in custody nationwide, dismissing claims of religious persecution in Nigeria.
The minister’s comments come amid global concerns over Nigeria’s security challenges, as Boko Haram’s insurgency continues to claim lives, displace communities, and disrupt livelihoods across parts of the country.
