A famous atheist twitter (X) influencer that goes by the handle DANNY @AjeboDanny took to the streets of Lagos where he was on a self appointed mission to “recruit unbelievers” as he described on his X handle.
While on this adventure, Danny dashed out money, packs of food and also bought from some Lagos street vendors. It was a day of joy to many, as a lot of faces brightened with smiles and cheers. However, what is more interesting in this, is Danny’s disposition to proving Christians and religion wrong. He was not just out on the streets to do giveaways, which is a thing he does frequently. He was out in a bid to strengthen his atheistic claims. He sought the opinion of the struggling Lagos street huzzlers about God and Church.
A man was asked why he stopped attending church. He replied thus: “Church no fit help me, so I go help myself”. Another was asked if he believes in God, his response was; “I no believe about God, I believe in wetin I dey serve”.
One spoke on the shame that follows after not being unable to give tithe while everyone is doing so. He said, “na person wey get money normal normal, na im suppose dey go church o, I no go lie for you… Like tithe now, wey be say you go go church you no go get money to pay tithe, just imagine say everybody stand up, only you come sitdown, how you want take feel?”
Another person talked about the issue of class and status in the church, that even in the church where everyone is supposed to be equal since it is God they came to serve, status is being upheld. He said, the rich are being separated from the poor. “They get VIP inside church. They get regular, for inside church wey no be so” he said.
It is not surprising to see a lot of Nigerians today rethinking their religious inclinations. Hardship has made them question what they used to hold sacred. A lot of Nigerians no longer attend churches. Most now see the church as an enterprise where its owners are cashing out big from the members’ tithes and offerings, yet most of the members remain in want. However, these pastors and General overseers always find a way to keep the members in perpetual subservience. This has been one of Danny’s missions, to emancipate Nigerian Christians from the mental manipulations of their wealthy pastors, and more extremely about the inability of God to answer their prayers.
Danny while gifting money to one, said “as the church no answer you, use this one guide”.
